COMMON SEO MYTHS in 2016SEO Myths 2016

The world of SEO myths is a minefield. Unfortunately, telling a good SEO specialist Singapore from a rotten egg can be difficult for clients who are new to the world of SEO. I once fell in this trap too when looking for an agency for my transport and logistics business. I spent thousands of dollars on the SEO, lost tens of thousands in potential revenue, and wasted 12 months of my time due to a dishonest and deceptive SEO company that had me bound by a contract.

Having learnt from this experience, I decided to launch the Digital Squad to finally provide authentic and honest SEO services in Singapore NZ.

In my time in the industry, I’ve come across some shocking SEO myths, most of which still shock me:

  1. If I pay $99 for link building with a foreign company, I’ll get the same results.
It’s worth remembering the old adage “you get what you pay for”. It’s easy enough to spam low PR sites with links and see some short-term results, but you will most likely be blacklisted. Following the Penguin 4.0 algorithm update on 23rd September, this can be done in real-time. Bear in mind that new SEO campaigns require at least 20 hours of work per week to build traction, and a spammy approach to link building just won’t do.
  2. I’ve just bought a new website from a web design agency and they’ll also include the SEO.
If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that, I would be a millionaire. In reality, web design agencies can only do basic on-page optimisation. Keyword density, copywriting, meta-tag, schema optimisation and more than 40 other technical factors are critical for your ranking as well as lead generation. SEO generalists can only get you so far!
  3. I can’t afford SEO.
But can you really afford not having it? I have personally experienced a 300% increase in revenue after a 4 week SEO campaign. Better yet, SEO never sleeps, allowing you to reap the benefits around the clock. When you pay for quality SEO and obtain the coveted first page ranking, you can enjoy higher conversion rates due to credibility perception, higher average sale and more leads.
  4. There is no way to measure ROI.
The reality is, ROI is hard to track for a bunch of other marketing strategies, but certainly not SEO. At one time, businesses would spend between $3500-$15,000 every year to be on Yellow Pages (and many still do!) But there’s no real way to track ROI on Yellow Pages, or billboards for that matter. When it comes to the digital realm, however, ROI is 100% measurable. Real-time analytical data can be accessed at any time, providing transparent insight into customer behaviour, bounce and conversion rates and other critical data.
  5. I get my customers from word-by-mouth or referral so I don’t need SEO.
Word-by-mouth is effective, but it can take years to build the kind of trust with your customer base that will have them raving about you to anyone who’ll listen. Search phrases represent real buyers who have a 92% change of making a purchase decision based on online search results. Over 85% of these customers will choose a company from the first page of results.
